General Discussion / Crowdfunding - what do you think?
« on: November 30, 2012, 03:08:11 pm »
Crowdfunding is the big thing at the moment.

We successfully used Kickstarter to raise funds for our first fiction anthology and it seemed to work out pretty well.

What are your opinions on crowdfunding? Would you use it for one of your own projects? Would you back a project on a crowdfunding site?

We'd also love to hear if you have any questions about the Kickstarter we ran, how we managed it and what we learned.

Fiction Discussion / Great Escapes | Volume 1 - Kickstarter Project
« on: November 08, 2012, 11:54:49 pm »
Hi Everyone,

The Great Escape has been publishing fiction on the web since it launched in 2011. We're now bringing the fiction from our first year together in one book along with new contributions and illustrations.

You can find out all about the book on our Kickstarter project page.

The ebook is only £3 and the print book £7. Plus there are extras like art cards, prints and special thanks in the book itself for larger pledges.

And if any of you would be willing to spread the word via a blog, facebook or just to friends and family, that would be awesome.

If you'd like your work to feature in a future anthology, check out the submissions page on the main site and email any work to me via the address there.

Fiction Discussion / Book Crossing - release books into the wild
« on: February 28, 2012, 09:47:12 pm »
I recently signed up to

Book Crossing is a way of tracking books released and shared by strangers.

Grab a book off your shelf that you don't mind parting with, slap a sticker on it (or even just write in the cover) and register it on the website. Once it has a reference number you can release it, either by passing it on to someone you know (controlled release), or by leaving it somewhere for people to find (wild release).

When someone finds the book they can enter the ref number into the site and find out where it has been. Then they can read it and release it again for someone else to find.

World book day is coming up on the 1st March. Why not check out Book Crossing and find out if any books have been released near you, or release some of your own.

Forum Games / Change one letter
« on: October 28, 2011, 10:08:53 pm »
That traditional staple word game of forum games. How do you play? Simple, take the word posted by the last person, change one letter and then use the letters to make a new word.

and so on.

Happy letter changing :)

What's that? How so you win? Erm... I have no idea. Anyone?
