General Discussion / Crowdfunding - what do you think?
« on: November 30, 2012, 03:08:11 pm »
Crowdfunding is the big thing at the moment.

We successfully used Kickstarter to raise funds for our first fiction anthology and it seemed to work out pretty well.

What are your opinions on crowdfunding? Would you use it for one of your own projects? Would you back a project on a crowdfunding site?

We'd also love to hear if you have any questions about the Kickstarter we ran, how we managed it and what we learned.

I would say ebooks count. You certainly wouldn't tell a blind person that they'd never read a book just because they listen to them instead. It's only a shame a lot of audio books are abridged.

Do you get downloads or listen on CD?

I've just read The Maze Runner by James Dashner, a YA adventure that was refreshingly free of angsty romance. Definitely a nice easy and enjoyable read. Now I need to go buy parts 2 and 3 in the series.

One thing we've noticed is that files exported from Premier in H.264 will often appear out of sync in Quick Time player but are actually okay and play fine uploaded to YouTube.

You might want to try downloading VLC player as an alternative for previewing the files.

Fiction Discussion / Great Escapes | Volume 1 - Kickstarter Project
« on: November 08, 2012, 11:54:49 pm »
Hi Everyone,

The Great Escape has been publishing fiction on the web since it launched in 2011. We're now bringing the fiction from our first year together in one book along with new contributions and illustrations.

You can find out all about the book on our Kickstarter project page.

The ebook is only £3 and the print book £7. Plus there are extras like art cards, prints and special thanks in the book itself for larger pledges.

And if any of you would be willing to spread the word via a blog, facebook or just to friends and family, that would be awesome.

If you'd like your work to feature in a future anthology, check out the submissions page on the main site and email any work to me via the address there.

Thanks! I really did fall in love with that music when I found it. The track title is "My Life" which just seemed too apt to ignore.

The artist is Tim Brown and we licensed the music through You License.

A suggestion for the team. Would you consider posting which film festivals your shorts are to be shown at. Does the team have a distributor? As naming them may aid the teams future.

Hey John.
By distributor, do you mean one of us in charge of distribution or an external company which handles distribution? In either case we don't have one.
As far as advertising film festivals we will be appearing in, we will of course advertise any that come up but at the moment there are none lined up. Such announcements will appear on the main site blog, facebook and twitter feeds. Posting them on the forum would be a good idea, thanks.
